This position will allow you to use your expertise to prevent illegal entry of aliens into the United States by land, water, or air; enforce criminal provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Laws; and seek out and apprehend smugglers or aliens who are in the United States illegally.
Apply for this exciting opportunity to strengthen the Department's ability to protect the homeland. This position starts at a salary of $152,040.00 (GS-15, Step 1) to $197,200.00 (GS-15, Step 10). As a Supervisory Border Patrol Agent (Deputy Chief Patrol Agent), you will serve as a secondary law enforcement officer (under 5 U.S.C. 8336 (c) and 8412 (d)) and be responsible for directing and overseeing Sector-wide law enforcement operations, administrative functions, and strategic initiatives in support of the Chief Patrol Agent.
Typical duties will include: Directing the planning, management, and coordination of complex border security and law enforcement operations across the Sector. Providing executive-level policy guidance and resolving complex issues involving laws, regulations, procedures, and operational impacts. Managing collaborative enforcement efforts with federal, state, local, tribal, foreign, and non-governmental partners to support intelligence sharing and border security operations.
Developing and implementing Sector organizational structures, policies, procedures, goals, and operating plans to achieve national Border Patrol objectives. Advising the Chief Patrol Agent on operational matters, program improvements, resource needs, and personnel actions.
What we are looking for
You qualify for the GS-15 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Providing technical and administrative direction for Border Patrol or comparable law enforcement operations involving enforcement of immigration, criminal, or related laws.
Applying law enforcement procedures and investigative techniques to plan, oversee, or evaluate enforcement activities. Supporting in the coordination of Sector-wide intelligence, investigative, and interdiction activities. Inspecting operations to determine effectiveness and compliance with sector and agency policies.
This position has an Individual Occupational Requirement: Specialized Experience in law enforcement or other responsible work that demonstrated the ability to: Make arrests and exercise sound judgment in the use of firearms; deal effectively with individuals or groups of persons in a courteous, tactful manner in connection with law enforcement matters; analyze information rapidly and make prompt decisions or take prompt and appropriate law enforcement action in light of applicable laws, court decisions, and sound law enforcement procedures; and develop and maintain contact with a network of informants.
Secondary Law Enforcement Officer Special Retirement Coverage: This is a secondary position subject to mandatory retirement under the special retirement provisions for law enforcement officers under CSRS and FERS 5 CFR 842.803, 5 CFR 831.903, 5 USC 8425(b), 5 USC 8335(b),5 USC 8412(d) and 5 USC 8336(c). Employees in secondary positions must meet the following conditions in order to be eligible for special retirement provisions: moved directly from a rigorous position to a secondary position without a break in service; complete 3 years of service in a rigorous position; and have been continuously employed in a secondary position(s) since moving from a rigorous position without a break in service exceeding 3 days.

You will serve as a Marine Inspector (District Training) and be responsible for identifying, prioritizing, and resolving prevention workforce risks by enhancing the proficiency of field personnel and informing leadership on strategies to mitigate qualification gaps and build the capacity of Great Lakes District's prevention mission across its four Sectors and six Marine Safety Units. Develops courses of action to address resource and training gaps, and works with leadership to secure necessary support from headquarters. Primary training coordinator and liaison within the Coast Guard Great Lakes District, collaborating with internal stakeholders, national networks, field units, and local industry to develop, support, and facilitate diverse maritime training and ship-rider opportunities.
