IT SPECIALIST (SECURITY)

The primary purpose of this position is to perform technical work in support of Cybersecurity, the purpose of which is to provide Information Technology (IT)security services to protect the integrity, accuracy and availability of a wide range of IT systems and networks. DUTY l: Performs base-level Information Assurance Management (IAM), senior IT specialist, IA Certification and Accreditation (C&A), and security risk management duties. As the base IAM and Risk Management Framework Authorizing Official and network enclave Information Assurance Manager for the largest USAF educational-domain network, assumes primary responsibility for the IA posture and risk management of assigned circuit-enclaves and computer networks. DUTY2: Assesses DoD and AF policy needs and develops policy and procedures governing IA and C&A activities. Plans, develops, and approves procedures and interprets policy related to IA and C&A activities. DUTY3: Functions as the senior AFIT information assurance and security risk analyst. Applies computer security requirements to safeguard IT systems and information. Safeguards against sabotage, tampering, and denial of service, espionage, fraud, misappropriation, misuses, or release of information to unauthorized persons. DUTY4: Serves as the AFIT IAM and networks security focal point at conferences and meetings and presents briefings. Leads and/or participates in discussions, meetings, conferences, committees or special IT projects.

BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: OPM: General Schedule Qualification Standard for Information Technology (IT) Management Series, 2210 (Alternative A) Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate GS-5 through GS-15 (or equivalent): For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. The employing agency is responsible for identifying the specific level of proficiency required for each competency at each grade level based on the requirements of the position being filled. AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. Specialized experience includes planning, directing, formulating, integrating, and executing all aspects of information system security requirements within cost, schedule, performance and/or operational requirements. Also applying Information Technology (IT) security principles, methods and security products to protect and maintain the availability, integrity, confidentiality, and accountability of information systems resources and information processes throughout the system's life cycle. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
